BCBC co-founder:

Anita Kellman, RT (RM), has worked in the breast imaging field for over 25 years, performing mammograms and assisting in breast core biopsies and needle localizations. Through her work, she meets breast cancer survivors in various stages of treatment and recovery - many looking for a way to feel better about themselves. Recognizing a need for a physical fitness support group, Anita co-founded Breast Cancer Boot Camp to share her knowledge, support and have a positive impact on others.

The Mission of Breast Cancer Boot Camp

You've heard the statistics before - one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. It could be your mother, sister, wife, daughter - or it may be you. And men are at risk for breast cancer, too. Yes, preventive screenings have made earlier detection more common and advances in cancer research mean more people survive breast cancer each year. But standard treatments - surgery, radiation and chemotherapy - remain both physically and mentally challenging.

Breast Cancer Boot Camp is a fitness-based support program created to help survivors stay active during cancer treatment and beyond, giving them the ability to take charge of their health. People with strong bodies and focused minds are more likely to advocate on behalf of their own well-being and are better prepared to overcome the challenges of breast cancer. Studies have shown that regular exercise can help relieve stress and anxiety, and combat some of the side effects common to cancer treatment such as nausea and fatigue.

Our support network also includes one-on-one mentoring for newly diagnosed as well as various social and networking opportunities for survivors at all stages of treatment and recovery.

Community outreach includes a free community lecture series offering health-related topics presented by top speakers.

No one signs up for breast cancer - but more than 200,000 people will be drafted into battle this year. We're here to support those determined to not only survive, but to thrive.
